Sometimes creativity only truly comes when the pressure’s off, a lesson graphic designer and illustrator Jean Jullien learned on his road trip along California’s ‘Big Sur’ central coastline. His snapshots, ranging from tree-hugging to rollercoaster riding and wine-slurping come paired with 15 ways to inspire creativity on the road.
Taking six months off to leave his native Brittany in search of inspiration, the illustrator journeyed into wild woods, camped on cliff edges and painted the crashing waves of the west coast, documenting his journey with a mini cut-out of himself in a series of smile-inducing iPhone vignettes along the way.
Not only did his pilgrimage result in a sketchbook full of new material, it yielded some pretty eye-opening life lessons on the importance of travel in freeing the mind. His snapshots, ranging from tree-hugging to rollercoaster riding and wine-slurping come paired with 15 ways to inspire creativity on the road. If you’re stumped for ideas, staring at a blank canvas or struggling with writer’s block, maybe it’s time to take a page out of Jullien’s notebook and book that next trip in.
